Freebie: Paint Stroke Brushes Set for Photoshop CS3

I have actually made a brush set for Photoshop similar to this one before, but I feel that this one is generally better quality, and the brushes are much larger in size as well.

Paint Strokes Brush Set Preview

There are 13 brushes in the set, ranging from 1700px (smallest brush) up to nearly 2500px (most brushes are closer to 2500px). In this preview you can see the sizes for yourself, and decide if you want to download or not:

I hope to release some more different brush sets in the near future, as well as some textures. Anyone have any ideas?

Note: Please feel free to use these for whatever: personal, commercial and other projects. You don’t have to give me credit, unless someone asks where they brushes came from!

How to Install the Brushes

I’m sure some newer users to Photoshop would like instructions on how to install these brushes, so here it is. Firstly take note that these brushes were made in Adobe Photoshop CS3, so they may not work with older versions.

1. Select the Brush tool from the tools menu (B).

2. In your Photoshop menus, you’ll see the brush you have selected, click the arrow next to it.

Select Brush Area

3. Now your brushes box will be up. Click the smaller arrow button in the top right of your box.

Load Brushes

4. Click “Load Brushes…” and find the .abr file you’ve just downloaded.

That should be all there is to it! Just leave a comment below if you have any questions or comments.

It says that the ‘URL is not valid’, cannot download.

Kaske: That was a bit careless of me. I actually didn’t put the URL to the brushes in the post. Hopefully it works now!

Fatchary: I should have noted in the post: yes you can use these for commercial projects. Please feel free to use them for whatever you like, and you don’t have to give credit (unless someone asks you where you got them from!)

Great brush set! I love painted texture brushes, and well, just grungy themed brushes in general. I can never have enough. Great job with this.

Nice set of brushes; thanks Eli!

I’m sorry for going outside the topic, but would you mind sharing which font was used to draw the text in the preview shot (“13 painted brushes”) :)

Davis: I’m glad you asked, the font is called Delicious, and it’s free to download from here.

    It’s a really nice font, right? :D

This is exaclty what I’m looking for but I use gimp – could you posisbly upload just the black and white jpgs or other image file of these brushes before you converted them to photoshop brushes? Please? Thankyou, Jane

Jane: I have not used GIMP for some time now (was an avid user before), but I believe latest versions of GIMP (2.4+) allows you to use Photoshop brushes. Please check if that is the case.

Yes, these brushes should work with GIMP–they did for me.
    Thanks for the brushes :)
